Each Teams Biggest Offseason Needs: AL East

Baltimore Orioles: POWER BAT

The Orioles had an incredible season, but failed once again to do anything in the playoffs, but I don’t think that they need to make any major improvements. The thing that they need is a power bat, preferably a LHH. They are possibly losing Anthony Santander to free agency, so filling that power bat gap is needed. They only really got power provided by Henderson and Santander, which were the only ones to hit more than 25 HR. I believe they could use a starter, but adding that power bat could sustain their offense for 2025.

Boston Red Sox: Starting Pitching/Bullpen/Quality Depth

The Red Sox ended 2024 with an even 81-81 record, which seems better to me than their roster says. Great seasons from Devers, Duran and rookie Wilyer Abreu helped them massively, but their depth and pitching lacked severely. The Sox 5 starters with the most usage outside of Tanner Houck all had ERA’s above 4.00. They need a dependable starter in their rotation, maybe they make a run at Corbin Burnes in free agency. The bullpen was an issue as well, with their most used relievers all having above 3.00 ERA’s. They also need a good utility man that provides good offense. Between Tyler O’Neil being a free agent, and Emmanuel Valdez playing everyday with a .633 OPS will not cut it.

New York Yankees: JUAN SOTO

I believe that they Yankees one need is simple: do anything to sign Juan Soto to a long term deal. He did so much for this Yankees team on the field and off of the field this season, that they need to make a BIG effort to keep him.

Toronto Blue Jays: BULLPEN AND VLAD JR

Toronto had a more than disappointing year finishing well below .500. Their bullpen was very bad, with their best bullpen arm being Chad Green at a 3.21 ERA, everyone else was above a 3.50 that threw in 45 games or more. Maybe trading some MLB-ready players for a Devin Williams would be a good move. And the other need for the Jays’ is signing Vlad Jr to a massive deal. Vlad Jr had an incredible year posting a .323 average with a .940 OPS. Making Vladdy a life-long Blue Jay needs to be a top-priority.

Tamps Bay Rays: SIGN A BAT OR 2

The Tampa Bay Rays can’t be compared to many other teams, we know how they operate. They need to spend some money on a couple of solid bats to multi-year deals. Trading Zach Eflin and Randy Arozarena took money off of their books, so signing some good bats is possible for them. They will be just fine on the mound, with good young arms as well as Jeffery Spring, Drew Rasmussen and Shane McClanahan coming back from Tommy John. With Brandon Lowe possibly on the way out, they need to spend some cash on good bats, or give Junior Caminero and Carson Williams everyday playing opportunities.
